Crisis Text Line
Description

Crisis Text Line provides free, text-based support 24/7, youโ€™ll be connected to a trained Crisis Counselor.ย  ย A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.

Who are Crisis Counselors? They are trained volunteers whoโ€”with the support of full-time Crisis Text Line staffโ€”use active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning to help texters in their moment of crisis.

How Does it Work?

First, youโ€™re in a crisis. Crisis doesnโ€™t just mean thinking about ending your own life.ย  Itโ€™s any painful emotion and anytime you need support. So, you text us at 741741.Your opening message can say anything. Keywords like โ€œHOME,โ€ โ€œSTARTโ€ and โ€œHELLOโ€ just help us identify how people hear about us.
The first two responses are automated. They tell you that youโ€™re being connected with a Crisis Counselor and invite you to share a bit more.ย  The Crisis Counselor is a trained volunteer, not a professional. They can provide support, but not medical advice.
